Ingredients:

For the Meatloaf:

500g (1 lb) ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 egg

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup milk

2 tablespoons ketchup

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)

For the Onion Gravy:

1 large onion, sliced

2 tablespoons butter

1 tablespoon flour

1 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

 

Instructions:

🔹 Step 1: Make the Meatloaf

1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

2. In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, chopped onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, milk, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and thyme.

3. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a baking dish.

4. Bake for 45–60 minutes or until fully cooked (internal temp 70°C / 160°F).

 

🔹 Step 2: Make the Onion Gravy

1. While the meatloaf bakes, melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.

2. Add sliced onions and cook until golden and soft (about 10 minutes).

3. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.

4. Gradually add beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps.

5. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes until thick.

 

🔹 Step 3: Serve

1. Remove meatloaf from oven and let it rest for 5–10 minutes.

2. Pour the onion gravy over the top.

3. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

4. Slice and serve hot with mashed potatoes or vegetables.
