Apple & Cherry Pie

Ingredients:

2 ready-made pie crusts (or homemade pastry dough)

3 medium apples, peeled and sliced

1 cup cherries (fresh or canned, pitted)

1/2 cup sugar

2 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons cornstarch (or flour)

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 egg (for egg wash)

1 tablespoon butter (cut into small cubes)

Preparation:

1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).

2. Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, mix sliced apples, cherries, sugar, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Stir until the fruits are well coated.

3. Assemble the pie: Place one pie crust on the bottom of a baking dish. Pour the fruit mixture on top and spread evenly. Dot with small cubes of butter.

4. Cover the pie: Cut the second crust into strips and arrange them in a lattice pattern (criss-cross) over the filling.

5. Egg wash: Beat the egg and brush it over the top crust for a golden finish.

6. Bake: Place in the oven for 40–45 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

7. Cool slightly before serving so the filling sets.

✨ You can serve it warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
