Ingredients:

4 slices of thick bread (like sourdough or country loaf)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or fresh mozzarella slices)

1/2 cup marinara or pizza sauce

Fresh basil leaves

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)

1 tablespoon butter (for toasting)

Optional: grated Parmesan cheese for topping

Instructions:

1. Prepare the filling:

Spread a spoonful of marinara sauce on two slices of bread.

Add a layer of mozzarella cheese over the sauce.

Place fresh basil leaves on top of the cheese.

Add more marinara sauce if you like, then top with more mozzarella.

2. Assemble the sandwich:

Close the sandwich with the remaining slices of bread.

Butter the outside of each slice (both top and bottom).

3. Toast the sandwich:

Heat a pan or grill over medium heat.

Place the sandwiches on the pan and cook for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden and crispy.

If needed, cover the pan to help the cheese melt faster.

4. Add cheese topping (optional):

For the melty cheese on top like in the photo, transfer the toasted sandwich to a baking tray.

Add extra mozzarella on top and sprinkle with oregano.

Broil in the oven for 1–2 minutes until bubbly and golden.

5. Serve:

Let cool slightly, slice, and enjoy while hot and melty!
