Ingredients:

3 ½ cups (440g) all-purpose flour or bread flour

1 cup (240ml) warm milk (not hot)

¼ cup (50g) sugar

2 ¼ tsp (7g) active dry yeast (1 packet)

1 tsp salt

1 large egg

¼ cup (60g) unsalted butter, softened (room temperature)

Instructions:

1. Activate the Yeast:

In a small bowl, mix warm milk and sugar.

Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy.

2. Make the Dough:

In a large bowl, add flour and salt.

Add the egg and the yeast mixture.

Mix until a rough dough forms.

3. Add Butter:

Add softened butter gradually while kneading.

Knead the dough for about 10 minutes by hand or 6–8 minutes with a mixer, until smooth and elastic.

4. First Rise (Proofing):

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl.

Cover with a towel or plastic wrap.

Let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled in size (as shown in the image).

5. Shape the Dough:

Punch down the risen dough.

Shape it into a loaf or rolls.

Place in a greased baking dish or loaf pan.

6. Second Rise:

Cover and let it rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy.

7. Bake:

Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).

Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown on top.

Optional: Brush the top with butter after baking for a soft, shiny finish.

✅ Tips:

Use bread flour for a chewier texture.

For sweeter bread, increase sugar to 1/3 cup.

This dough can also be used for dinner rolls, sweet buns, or filled bread.
