Ingredients:
For the cake:
1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup (120ml) milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the glaze:
1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter
1 cup (200g) brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup (60ml) milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup (120g) powdered sugar, sifted
Instructions:
1. Prepare the cake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a loaf pan.
2. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
5. Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with the milk, mixing until just combined.
6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
7. Let the cake cool slightly in the pan before removing to a wire rack.
8. Prepare the glaze: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar and milk, stir and bring to a gentle boil. Boil for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly.
9. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Gradually whisk in powdered sugar until smooth.
10. Pour the glaze over the warm cake and let it set before slicing.
